Rays of Aristarchus and Kepler

Top: Aristarchus, young and bright, Herodotus to its west (left) as well as Vallis Schroter, a sinuous valley in the upper left. Vallis Schroter is 185.32 in length and about 1 km in depth. Kepler is in bottom center.

Copernicus is just off lower right corner of image.

Image exposed 16 May 2011 at 03:13:18 UT through red filter at prime focus.

Bottom: Same image as above but rectified (with LTVT) to provide aerial view above Aristarchus and Herodotus, the darker crater to the left (west) of Aristarchus. Herodotus is about 23 miles in diameter.

Ray pattern between Aristarchus, Copernicus and Kepler reminiscent of interacting neurons.
